In our attempt to try all the best pizza in South Brooklyn, we came upon AvenUe Pizza on Avenue U in Bensonhurst. A very nice place that serves not only pizza of various types but also burgers and Italian dishes. We kept our lunch to pizza, trying the regular slice, the regular Sicilian, a veggie slice, a pepperoni slice and one of Mellie’s specials, Mellie being the manager of AvenUe Pizza. All were terrific, with my daughter saying that she wanted to order from AvenUe the next time she and her girlfriend were going to eat out. High praise indeed from my pizza-snob offspring. Mellie was very nice and also a huge Knicks fan. Another successful pizza outing!

What to Order

The regular slice and all the ones with toppings were top notch. The Sicilian was hefty with just the right mix of sauce, crust and cheese. Both with the freshly snipped basil on top. Regular slices start at $3.25 for a plain slice and toppings add  $1.15-$1.75. Sicilian goes for $4. The chicken parm heros were huge with each one lasting an extra meal and goes for $12.50, with other heroes at or near that price point. 

Good to know before you go

• Hours: Sunday– Thursday 11am – 10pm, Friday & Saturday 11am – 11pm
• The Wait: A local spot, we’ve been back several times and while the tables can fill up at lunch time or dinner, there’s never much of a wait. 

UPDATE

My daughter, who lives not far away, has designated AvenUe Pizza her go-to spot in the area. She now orders pizza and heros from them about once a week. Their $10 minimum for delivery is easy to hit for 2 people and the food has so far always been hot when it gets to her.
