Mancini’s Wood-Fired Pizza – Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY
Growing up in Brooklyn, I knew of Bay Ridge. It was that neighborhood in the far south western corner of the borough, made famous by the movie “Saturday Night Fever”. We’d shop at the Korvette’s on Bay Parkway and think this was all that Bay Ridge had. Oh were we ignorant!! Last week, I read about the Bay Ridge Pizza Wars and its winner, Mancini’s WoodFired Pizza. So, visiting my daughter this past weekend, I suggested we give them a try. We were very happy we did! Mancini’s blew us away!! From the friendly and attentive service to the delicious Sicilian slice and the wonderful regular pie, everything was terrific!! And while parking is tight in the area, especially with the street fair going on yesterday, we found street parking right near the municipal parking lot. When we left, we made sure to grab a menu to try some of their other offerings in the future, yeah, that chicken parm hero was calling my name. The pasta with grilled chicken on looked wonderful at the next table.
Question for any New Yorkers in the crowd, do you look at what others are having before you order? I tend to engage with lots of folks near me and sometimes get some great information.
Anyway, back to the pizza. The Sicilian was wonderful, different than Spumoni Garden’s but definitely in the same league. The regular pie had a sauce that was noticeably sweet, which went fabulously with the hot pepper flakes I tend to sprinkle on my slices.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone at Mancini’s. We’ll be back!
